TASK 2: ESSAY

"Translation has been an important part of English language teaching for a long time, but it has been abandoned since communicative methodologies became dominant." 

Translation has been important and is important nowadays

There has been a misunderstanding about translation, because foreign language teachers think that, if a student wants to learn  foreign language and the goal is to be efficient not only speaking fluently but writing  in a good level, they have to avoid translation, but the truth is,  when we are learning a second language we are all the time using translation, it is the only way for beginners to start understanding the meaning  of the second language, and even for more experienced students translation could become a very good friend, because sometimes people end up working as a translator or interpreter.

It is important to highlight the video (translation and language learning). In this video we can appreciate a new view about translation and it is that Finland and Germany, countries that have high level not only in education in general, but principally in foreign languages, they use translations as a good way in order to teach the foreign language. This point allows us to think different I mean to change our poin of view about the great importance of translation, which from these dates we can affirm, translation is a very powerful way to learn foreign languages.

Translation could be really funny in environmental learning place, because the student immediately identifies the meaning with an action or image, for example when we translate "go away" with "vayase lejos o aparté se de mi vista", the first thing that we do is translation, but a very efficient translation. However, we have to know that the translation Word by Word is only efficient in specific situations.

I would also like to say that translation is an open door to enter into another culture, so translation gives the opportunity to know forward about the foreign culture, and it is important because the knowledge of the language and culture together could have done an amazing result.

DIFFÉRENCES AMONG CONCEPTS OF TRANSLATION PROCÉDURES, STRATÉGIES, METHODS AND TRANSLATION TECHNIQUES.








TRANSLATION PROCEDURES      
The translating procedures, as depicted by Nida (1964) are as follow:
         I.         Technical procedures:
        A.       analysis of the source and target languages;
        B.       a thorough study of the source language text before making attempts translate it;
        C.        Making judgments of the semantic and syntactic approximations. (pp. 241-45)
 
        II.        Organizational procedures:
constant re-evaluation of the attempt made; contrasting it with the existing available translations of the same text done by other translators, and checking the text's communicative effectiveness by asking the target language readers to evaluate its accuracy and effectiveness and studying their reaction.






STRATEGIES
Generally speaking, a translator uses a strategy when s/he encounters a problem while translating a text; this means, when a translator translates a text literally, translation strategies may not be needed. Bergen (n. d.) mentions that strategies are not obvious and trivial. Although, when they translate word for word and use a dictionary, beginners in the area of translation think they have made a good translation; they do not understand that a problem still exists and changes must be made at some levels of the translation. Therefore, problem-solving is the most important function of the strategies.



METHODS AND TECHNIQUES
Method is applied to the entire text to be translated, while the technique may vary within the same text according to each case and depending on the specific verbal elements to be translated. The classical taxonomy of translation procedures dates back to 1958 and is the work of J. P. Vinay and J. Darbelnet. It consists of seven categories:

TASK 5: CONCLUSIONS

Translations Techniques is a subject that gives a lot of knowledge, That Knowledge is very important for all foreign language teachers.
From my point of view this subject must be a compulsory course into the studies of English as a foreign language, because all information about translation and interpretation is a subtopic of L2.
